Do Something Nice Day and World Teacher Day

October 5, 2014

In my previous post I wrote about World Smile Day in which I encouraged readers to do something nice to make others smile.

Now today, October 5th, is Do Something Nice Day.  It is also World Teacher Day.

I decided to combine the two and do something nice for teachers by writing this story, and encouraging you to do something nice by recognizing, appreciating or thanking a teacher in your life.

I will be celebrating these holidays by sharing this blog with teachers I know and letting them know I appreciate them.  You can share this blog story with a teacher or others in your life, and celebrating both doing something nice AND appreciating the teachers of the world.

I’ve had some knowledgeable and capable teachers over the years, but the best teachers are ones that make their students feel good about themselves and about learning. A good teacher will teach you not only about a subject, but inspire you to learn more about the subject, and often times teach you some lessons about life.

My parents were my first and best teachers in life.  Do something nice for a parent and thank them for being a good teacher to you.

Or recognize or thank other teachers in your life.  Standout teachers in my life have included Jim Schuler in 8th grade at St. Christopher (recently deceased), Br. Christopher Shannon in high school at Marist, Br. Owen Meegan in college at Lewis University (deceased) and many others over the years. Br. Ray McManaman was also one of my college teachers at Lewis University who I appreciated learning the gospel from.  Fr. Kevin Spiess was another college teacher at Lewis who I learned valuable business world lessens from.

Other teachers that are in my group of friends and family members include my cousins Pam and Danielle, and friends John Carey, Gina Gagliano, and Leslie Thomas to name just a few.  There are several others and I apologize if you are one and I missed naming you.

Thank you to all you teachers for doing what you do to educate others by sharing your knowledge and being encouraging to the young people of the world.

Do something nice today.  Appreciate a teacher today.

My blog is a satire for all with stories, adventures, and opinions based on facts with minimal evidence and maximum wit. In short, a chronicle of my life. I hope you enjoy perusing my random banter, hilarious adventures, short stories with imaginative characters and hidden meanings, my unique wit, interests in pop culture and oddball opinions.
